REMEMBRANCE DAY THANK YOU LETTERS 2016
In 2016, Operation Salute hosted a "Thank You Letter" Campaign in which over 30 students from the community wrote personal letters dedicated to local veterans. The letters were than delivered and presented on Remembrance Day to the veterans at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #82 - Port Credit.
There were also two extremely touching stories I would like to share with everyone. A gentleman came up to me asking for a letter at the Remembrance Day Gala, noting that although he wasn't a veteran, the letter is meant for his deceased father who was a veteran. He said “my father would have loved to read this letter. It would’ve made him smile knowing that his sacrifice is appreciated by the younger generation. I am going to put this letter by his tombstone.”
The other one happened after the ceremony. We were approached by a nice mid-aged lady who had tears in her eyes. She said “I’m not a veteran, but I‘d love to have a letter to deliver to my sister. It’s for her son, my nephew, he went KIA in Afghanistan when he was only 20. The letter would give such a wonderful comfort to his mother. Her son lives through all of you. Thank you so much.”
Thank you to everyone who wrote a letter. You've all made a difference in your community and in the lives of these veterans!
Below are a few samples letters that were written, click on them for more information.
